Where to Recycle Your Christmas Electronics

(Latrobe, PA) Once your Christmas electronics are unwrapped and in place, what are you to do with your old TV, computer, or other electronic device? Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling reminds everyone that it’s still the law in Pennsylvania that televisions and computers must be recycled. Figuring out where to properly recycle them is the challenge.

Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling suffered a devastating fire in April 2017 which forced it to suspend its successful electronics recycling program until a larger facility could be found. A potential site has been located but final details are pending the January 2018 meeting of the Unity Township Zoning Hearing Board.

Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling's electronics collection program will resume in early 2018 at the new Recycling Center. WCR recommends that consumers hold on to any electronic items to be recycled until the new Recycling Center opens. As in the past, there will be no cost to consumers to recycle electronics at the new facility.

The existing Recycling Center located at 113 Innovative Lane near Beatty Crossroads in Unity Township will remain open as usual until the transition to the new location. Items like scrap metal, microwaves, Freon appliances, tires, fluorescent bulbs, cardboard and paper are accepted. Fees apply for certain items.

Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling suggests checking regularly on the organization’s website at www.westmorelandcleanways.org for updates on the electronics recycling program and the move to the new Recycling Center.
