Christmas Tree Recycling
Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling and Penn Township would like to encourage everyone to recycling their live Christmas trees.
Christmas Tree farms support complex eco-systems and absorb carbon dioxide and other gases while releasing oxygen. As they grow, the trees also stabilize soil, protect water supplies and provide refuge for wildlife. Don’t let their usefulness end with the holiday season. The benefits of a live Christmas tree can continue by recycling the tree. The live trees are chipped for mulch, which can then be used throughout local parks for beautification. As the mulch decomposes, it turns into valuable humus, nourishing and renewing the soil.
Penn Township and Republic Services will NOT pickup whole Christmas trees at the curb!*
Live undecorated Christmas trees must be completely bare of decorations when dropped off. This includes any tree bags or wrappings used to transport the tree to the drop-off site.
