History of Penn Township
Penn Township incorporated in 1855 and established as a 1st class township on January 1, 1958. Penn Township has five elected commissioners that are responsible for running the local government, which includes a municipal staff to take care of administration, finance, community development, police, and public works.

The township also has a treasurer who is also an elected official and is responsible for collecting local property tax and the Local Services Tax.

The township has recently updated its zoning ordinance and map with the intent to promote the bedroom community as a great place to live while allowing development of small businesses that will support the needs of the residents. In addition, more business development is seen as a way to shift the property tax burden off of residents and onto to businesses.
